Backspace

I am someone who has regrets. I suppose every human has regrets, but I’ve made so many mistakes and I know I will keep making mistakes. When one knows they tend to make mistakes, they become more careful. I type out a sentence. No, that didn’t come out right. Backspace. I start again. No, that incident is too personal. Backspace. I type out an honest heartfelt message. Really? You want to sound like a clingy loser? Backspace.
And then I wonder. What if I HAD sent him that text? Maybe we would still be friends. What if I had told her my feelings for her from day 1? Maybe we’d be dating. Backspace is a cruel button on the keyboard.

I like Enter. You start a new line. Enter. A new line with its own paragraph. You want to tell someone something? Don’t think, Enter. Do not doubt yourself too much, and be honest. Maybe you are a clingy loser. But there are seven billion people out there, I’m sure someone likes talking to clingy losers. Right? Even if you backspace that particular line, you cannot delete your clinginess from your head. Its best to let it out in the open.

In the Bible, when the soldiers come to arrest Jesus, Peter runs away. Peter did not want to abandon Jesus, but because of the immediate fear he leaves Him. Later, Peter regrets this. Jesus knew about this and specifically asked to see him after His resurrection. On the other hand, when Judas realises that he betrayed Messaih, Judas was so filled with regret that he tried to undo his actions. When that did not work, he killed himself.

Regret can lead to self destruction, but we are responsible for ourselves, to make better decisions in the future. Life gives you a backspace, but think before you delete what you wrote.
